VO2 Testing

The VO2 test is a cardiovascular and respiratory fitness assessment which will identify your VO2 at anaerobic threshold and peak.  This test will provide you with your optimal heart rate zones to train within to achieve your goals.

We identify and design training programs based on the 3 heart rate zones best for you. For those cyclists interested in a 5 zone training program, we can also identify the 5 heart rate zones best for you to train within; you or your coach can then put together a 5 zone training program for you. Our specialty is creating 3 heart rate zone training programs, but we can sure identify 5 zones for you.

Interval Heart Rate and Periodization Training Programs

The customized training programs increase your total calories burned which equates to weight loss.  It also equates to an increase in lean body mass; especially when combined with a weight training program.  The programs help to increase your resting metabolic rate and keep it up longer than any other “steady state” workout where you spend the majority of your time in the same heart rate zone.  This means you will be burning more calories even when you are resting!

The training programs tell you how long to work out and what heart rate zones to work out in for a specific period of time during each workout.  The program is designed so you can either follow it alone, without a coach or trainer, as long as you have a heart monitor to use, or your coach or trainer can incorporate it into the program they have designed for you.

Weight Loss and Sports Specific Programs

We offer programs designed for weight loss.  If your physician has suggested to you to lose weight or you have decided for yourself to lose weight, we are a safe place for you to start.  We will design a program for you that includes frequency and intensity details so you know exactly what to do and how often to do it.  Weight loss plays a key role for many in preventing cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes.

We also offer programs that are sports specific and can take into consideration an entire calendar year of training.  We have a variety of program capabilities specific to your needs including in-season, off-season, aerobic base and stamina building, and triathlete brick building to name a few.

Pre/Post Partum Programs

We customize programs to meet the needs of moms-to-be and new moms. Each individual needs to speak to their obstetrician about their specific condition, pregnancy, and any specific precautions and/or restrictions.

Exercise can ease most of the common complaints of pregnancy. It helps reduce backaches, increase energy, improve mood, posture, and circulation. It can increase flexibility, promote muscle tone, strength, and endurance. Exercise can also help women sleep better, and may help or treat gestational diabetes. It also strengthens the abdominal cavity which may improve a women’s ability to cope with the birthing process. Overall, activity approved by your obstetrician can lead to a healthier pregnancy and ease the challenges of postpartum recovery.

Determining your body composition helps you to make better decisions about your nutritional intake and exercise program. By exercising, you build new muscle, adding tone and shape to your body while reducing fat. This healthy change is not always reflected on the scale! That is one reason why it is a good idea to have your body composition measured.

It is recommended for those with weight loss goals, to measure their body composition every 3 months, utilizing the same method, to help them stay on track with their weight loss.
