Pre and Post Partum Programs

Exercise is good, in general, for women during and after pregnancy. Each individual needs to speak their own obstetrician about her specific condition and pregnancy, of course, regarding any specific precautions and/or restrictions.

An opinion from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Committee on Obstetric Practice states "recreational and competitive athletes with uncomplicated pregnancies can remain active during pregnancy," although modifications may be necessary. Some MD’s do not restrict pregnant women who were already exercising, unless there are contraindications. Other MD’s limit their patients to 30 minutes of continuous exercise, such as running, and to not exercise at a maximal level. It is wise to be careful for the best possible outcome of the pregnancy.

Exercise can ease most of the common complaints of pregnancy. It helps reduce backaches, increase energy, improve mood, posture, and circulation. It can increase flexibility, promote muscle tone, strength, and endurance. Exercise can also help women sleep better, and may help or treat gestational diabetes. It also strengthens the abdominal cavity which may improve a women’s ability to cope with the birthing process. Overall, activity approved by your MD can lead to a healthier pregnancy and ease the challenges of postpartum recovery.

VO2 Max Houston offers modified testing and specialized interval heart rate training for pre and postpartum women who are looking for a safe, individualized cardio program to follow to maintain or improve their fitness level during pregnancy or assist them in getting fit after pregnancy. We will consult your MD as necessary to fully understand your special needs as necessary and work with you and your physician in designing a cardio program that meets your needs and is in your best interest.

Body Composition Analysis

SEVEN site measurement with skin caliphers. Check out our computerized results ready to take home with upon measurment completion!

Determining your body composition helps you to make better decisions about the nutritional intake and exercise program that is best for meeting your goals. By exercising, you build new muscle, adding tone and shape to your body while reducing fat. This healthy change is not always reflected on the scale! That is one reason why it is a good idea to have your body composition measured.

Other reasons being knowledgeable about your body composition is a good idea and how it helps you to: optimize your athletic performance and evaluating effectiveness of your training regimen, assess the effectiveness of your nutritional intake and exercise intervention, establish your ideal body weight.

It is recommended to use your first measurement as a benchmark to then base your progress on with repeating measurements at regular intervals using the same technique.
